Voluntary/Work Experience Opportunities

Work experience opportunities would depend on our work load/current situation at the time. You could apply in writing to the Office Manager detailing which area/s you are interested in e.g. Admin, Advising, Finance, IT, how long the work experience will last for, how many hours you would be available and the days and what you would expect to get from it. We would endeavour to assist if able to.

Voluntary vacancies at the Bureau can be found on our website, we also advertise at the volunteer centre. Nationally people can search and submit expressions of interest to a bureau by visiting www.adviceguide.org.uk

Experience and Perception of Graduates

It depends on their degree and where they achieved it. However, it is the performance at interview that informs perception. The fact of achieving a degree shows commitment and perseverance. A significant minority of staff, both paid and volunteer, are graduates. They have achieved varying levels of success, as with non-graduate staff. Advice would be to smarten up, do your research into the position you are applying for; and present a positive attitude and willingness to go the extra yard.

Volunteering is a good stepping stone to gaining employment, it offers graduates the opportunity to see if a specific job or area of expertise is what they want to do. It is very rewarding both to the company and the individual; it can also lead to further training and qualifications and in some cases paid employment opportunities.
